Health management information systems
Reliable and timely information on service delivery and other key indicators is vital for health managers at all levels.
Health Partners International and our partners have been working in a number of countries to improve or create successful health management information systems. For example, our work to simplify a system in Nigeria has resulted in significant improvements in the reporting, quality and use of information.

Background information
With the increased focus on the Millennium Development Goals and the need to measure progress towards their achievement, health management information systems are receiving much more attention.
But, despite numerous initiatives in many countries to strengthen these systems, they often remain inappropriate and ineffectively targeted. This can be due to:
- overwhelming demands on staff and systems to collect and manage data at lower levels of a health system
- overly-complex systems which local services and facilities struggle to use, manage or maintain.
Thus, the need for successful health management information systems.
